A Natural History of the Senses: Sculpture
Artist Statement
The
sculpture explores how viewers of art have different experiences of interpretation.
A group of frames with comedic characters were created to emphasize the theme
of different meanings. Three shadow boxes framed with historical art pieces were
used to describe a setting in a museum. The comedic characters explained the
internal thinking processes of the viewers’ interpretations of the historical art
pieces. All four shadow boxes were placed in a triangular pattern to balance
the emphasis of each frame. The sculpture reminds us all about how we live in a
diverse culture full of expression. The comedic twist emphasizes the importance
of this sculpture because of its ability to combine past and current algorithms
of artistic style.
